About Us

Jim Coats is the Owner/President of Coats Construction.  Construction is Jim's passion...growing up in a small community in Wisconsin (Milton) while working with his father who owned and operated a hardwood flooring company.  He credits his work ethic from his father.  In 1984 Jim graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Construction Administration.   Since then, he has had a wide range of experiences including building motels, portable school buildings, light retail finish outs, concrete floating docks, custom homes, decks, remodels, asbestos abatement, and General Contracting. 

Since 1998, his primary focus has been the commercial industry with a wide variety of projects including but not limited to: large scale Tenant Improvements such as Silicon Valley Labs valued at $3.5 Million, managed a SF Hotel Restoration, SF Airport construction, Senior housing, Habitat for Humanity project, site work projects, retail, remodeling restaurants, library, and historical renovation.  His favorite project was building the Hercules Public Library, a 10 million dollar award winning Will Bruder design.  Participated in design build efforts including Value Engineering for the Villa Fairmont Mental Health Hospital, valued at $15 million.
